Real Estate Property Taxes

Tax bills are mailed annually. Currently, property taxes are collected in one payment and cover the Town’s fiscal year which runs January 1 to December 31. Beginning in 2013, tax payments will be due semi-annually.

Payments may be made in person or by mail addressed to: Town of Embden , Tax Collector, 809 Embden Pond Road, Embden, ME 04958 , and payable to the “Town of Embden.” If paying by mail, please enclose the payment stub from the tax bill, or as much information as possible on the account (account #, address, map/lot number, etc.). If requesting a receipt, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Any taxes not paid by close-of-business at year end will be listed in the annual Town Report.

Property Tax information is available at the Town Office.

Please call 207-566-5551 if you have any questions regarding your tax bill, or if you need to confirm or update your billing information.

SR 22 Insurance Filers – inform us of your status before we begin your registration. The Town of Embden will only be able to collect your excise tax and you will need to go to Bureau of Motor Vehicles to complete your registration. This applies to both new registrations and re-registrations of motor vehicles.

If you do not have your current insurance card, please have your insurance company fax us a copy at(207)566-5553.

Notes from the Tax Collector’s Office:

- Often, citizens call to ask for quotes to register their motor vehicles. Unfortunately, the office cannot always provide quotes over the phone for new vehicles because it is difficult to calculate costs correctly without all of the paperwork in front of them. There are too many variables, and quotes might not be accurate if the staff can’t see all the details.

- If you know you’re coming up on the due date for a renewal payment, it behooves you to pay it early. The State is not always up to date in their processing and filing, and adding to that is the rush of end of the month payments. Some payments processed by the Tax Collector’s Office are sent to State offices, and notification to the State doesn’t occur immediately. For example, if you’re registering your car on a Friday afternoon the last day of the month and you get pulled over during the weekend, your registration has not had ample time to update at the State level.
